I apologize for not getting one of these out sooner, but pushing the draft back 2 weeks really killed my vibe. You start to see the ridiculous hyperbole that networks bust out to try to get viewers. I spent the last couple of days finally watching these prospects tape, and this draft is extremely deep. Tonight should be extremely entertaining and I expect a ton of trades, so make sure you have that High Life cooling in the fridge and get that Pizza Hut order in early.
This should really surprise no one. Clowney is the most gifted athlete we have seen since Lebron James. From watching his tape, he is extremely raw technique wise and which should make a GM salivate as where he can get to with some NFL-caliber coaching. He needs a couple of pass rush moves (because all he has is a swim and bullrush right now), but if he does pick some up he will be an absolute monster. Watt and Clowney on one side of the field is just unfair.
Stephen White, who does most of those scouting reports that are linked, nicknamed Robinson “Deebo” and that couldn’t fit Robinson better. He straight punks people run blocking. He needs some work in pass pro, but he is athletic enough to give coaches solace that he can learn. He has a lot of Jason Peters in him from Philly.
3. Jacksonville Jaguars - Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson Highlights Scouting Report
3. Jacksonville Jaguars - Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson Highlights Scouting Report
The most fun player to watch in this draft. He plays much bigger than his frame, and is explosive as they get. Justin Blackmon is out there jamming to some Afroman, and Sammy will come in and ball for the Jags.
If the draft fell like this to the Browns, I would guess they swap with the Bucs and then grab Aaron Donald at seven. Not doing trades in this mock, though, so I think Evans would give the Browns a Brandon Marshall/Alshon Jeffrey like tandem at WR, and will make life easier for whoever is the Browns QB next year.
Reggie McKenzie would be loving life if the draft fell this way. They scoop up Mack and finally get a decent pass rusher for the worst roster in the league.
I really love what Matthews brings to the table. He is a day one starter at LT and someone that Matt Ryan can trust on the backside. Don’t rule out Eric Ebron in this spot, either.
Word is Lovie doesn’t dig Mike Glennon, and I don’t really blame him. I think Manziel would bring a spark for this offense, and pairing him with The Muscle Hamster would make for a hell of a run game.
To me this pick comes down between CJ Mosley and Bortles. I think new OC Norv Turner will be excited at the upside for Bortles, and they will grab him. Bortles will need some time to develop, but if this happens expect a lot of playaction bombs to Cordarrelle Patterson next year.
Ebron is one of my favorite prospects in the draft. You just don’t get a guy with that big of a frame be able to move that smooth. Ebron would be EJ Manuel’s BFF in Buffalo.
10. Detroit Lions - C.J. Mosley, LB, Alabama Highlights

I think Detroit will be content with pick best player available at 10. In this scenario, that player is CJ Mosley. He would be a plug and play guy day 1 in that LB group.
Aaron Donald is a guy that wouldn't shock me going in the top 6. However, if he gets past six, no teams need a 3 technique until Tennessee, who would use Donald at DE in Ray Horton’s scheme. They may be tempted to go QB here, but Donald is too good to pass up.
Martin is a very clean prospect that would come in and help a very poor NYG OLine.
I think the Rams have their eyes on WR with this pick. Beckham is so quick in and out of breaks, and has the frame to succeed in the league. He has a ton of star potential.
No Bear fan wants to relive Chris Conte settling under another seam route… but let’s all watch and laugh at it anyway.
This isn’t getting as much play as I would expect, but the Steelers do not have a very good football team. Dennard would be a good addition to an underwhelming defense.
Speaking of underwhelming defenses, the Cowboys is awful. I am curious to see how Anthony Spencer plays this year, but there is no doubt the Cowboys need pass rush help with Demarcus Ware heading to Denver. I think Barr can play in passing situations off the bat and get to the quarterback.
It’s funny to me that we all love to talk about red flags, and how Clowney is “lazy” or Manziel is too full of himself, but I haven’t heard any analysis of Lewan’s off the field trouble. All you need to read is this excerpt of this 2013 article:
Shortly after the woman reported the rape, she began to receive threats from Gibbons roommate and fellow football player, Taylor Lewan (now an All-American), that he would rape her again if she pressed charges against Gibbons.
The threats were reported by two other football players to the Office of Student Affairs who reported them to the University police. The University police did a “wellness check” on the young woman[9] and met with Taylor Lewan. They warned Taylor Lewan not to threaten the woman again and that he might face criminal charges[10]. No criminal charges were ever filed by the campus police.

Yeah…. that is a Khaleesi-sized red flag. He sounds a lot like Richie Incognito 2.0. But, he does have a lot of talent. With Michael Oher bolting this off season, I think the Ravens could go here.
Dee Milliner was pretty unimpressive last year, and he still needs another CB to help him out. Rex would love if Gilbert is here at this point, and would finally be able to play some decent man to man on the outside.
Miami needs someone who can guard Gronk. Simple as that.
I’m a huge Bridgewater fan. I think he is so cool under pressure which is where a lot of the QBs who bust cough*Gabbert*coughfall victim to. Bridgewater will be an NFL success, wherever he lands.
I know Packer fans are going to be clamoring for a safety here, or defense in general. The two picks that I could certainly see happening is either Ryan Shazier or Jimmie Ward. However, Thompson has been pretty sound on drafting for BPA, and I don’t think either of those guys are in the class of Benjamin. I think Benjamin can come in and give Rodgers a much needed red zone threat (I don’t see Boykin filing that void) with the loss of Jermichael Finley. Kelvin has tons of upside, and I could easily see him being a better pro than Mike Evans when it is all said and done. People worry about separation, but from what I have seen he is a better route runner than he is given credit for. He is a guy who you can throw up a fade to and just let him win. I think this pick would scare the rest of the NFC North, much more than Shazier and Ward, and that should go into consideration here.
Lee slayed Oregon when Chip was there, and with the loss of DeSean Jackson, I think WR is a he target here.
Cooks has tremendous stop and start, and would be able to do work on all of the under routes that are run in Andy Reid’ offense.
This is a player that not many people are talking about who may shock some people at where he is drafted. He is extremely long and powerful, and could succeed in both a 4-3 and 3-4. Look for him to shock some of the “experts” and where he is selected.
Chargers needs defensive help, and Verrett has big play potential at CB.
I think we are going to see a lot of late 1stround QBs go because of the new CBA. It allows a fifth year option for rookie contracts, and with a franchise tag possibility for a sicth year, that is great value. Carr has a lot of arm talent, but I worry about his ability to make accurate throws with pressure in his face.
This would be great value for a guy with a lot of upside. The Saints need another LB, and this would be a great match.
A lot of people will want WR here, but the Panthers OT situation is horrendous with Jordan Gross’ retirement. Cyrus is a high ceiling-low floor player, but he may be the best of the bunch remaining.
Never a good look to fail a combine drug test, but the Patriots have a history of taking guys that fall for those reasons. Jernigan is extremely athletic for his size, and could be a great fit in Belichick’s hybrid defense.
They need some insurance for Aldon Smith, and Dee Ford can come in and flat out rush the QB on 3rd downs.
Broncos need help at CB, and Fuller is a guy that a lot of people are high on.
Tuitt could easily be Red Bryant’s replacement in that defense.
